CHARACTERName: Amaya Hayashi
Age: 18
Race: Snake Faunus
Gender: Female
Symbol: Occupation: Student (Beacon Academy)
Appearance: - Spoiler:
((Obviously she is not a full blown snake-girl, but I liked the art and style of this a lot, so just ignore the tail half and you have my character))
As a snake Faunus, parts of her body are covered in a mesh of scales instead of regular skin. Her shoulders, forearms, hips, and calves are all covered in the white scales, as well as two long sets patches that stretch across her body. One is a trail of scales that line both sides of her spine stretching from the scales on her shoulder blades down to the small of her back, the others start at her hips and stretch down the sides of her thighs and up to her ribs.
Normally she wears clothes that fit well enough to cover all her patches of scales so she can disguise the fact that she is a Faunus and avoid any sort of discrimination or hatred for it. The only patch of scales she can't easily hide are the ones that stretch from her shoulders up the sides of her neck, but normally she will style her hair in such a way to cover them naturally.
Her eyes are a light red color, with snake-like slits for pupils although she often wears aesthetic contact lenses to cover them up and make it easier to disguise herself. While around school she tends to use deep blue contacts, but while out in public and away from people she knows she’ll often wear green contacts simply out of preference.
History: Amaya hadn’t led a particularly eventful childhood, or have any crazy rebellious teenage years, in fact her whole life had never been very interesting or exciting. She had grown up in a small and rather secular town of mostly humans, without anything to really distract her from a life of schoolwork and studying. The only reason that her family even lived there was because her human father was the local Sherriff.
Her mother was a former Huntress, who had been forced to step away from that life due to a crippling injury. Growing up, her mother would tell her stories about some of the things that she did as a Huntress, and they sounded like wonderful adventures to the young girl who was still quite naïve about the way the world worked. This instilled a fascination with Hunters and Huntresses, and a desire to join their ranks and be just like them.
While she was in school, she was a prime target for harassment and prejudice. It seemed that everything she had going for her was working against her. She was physically weak, incredibly intelligent, and with dreams and aspirations that many would consider to be out of her reach, not to mention being a Faunus in a community and school of mostly bigoted humans.
This led to her being rather isolated from everyone else and quite lonely. After a while she got used to it, and used all the time she would have spent having any sort of a social life for studying everything she needed to know about being a Huntress.
After dealing with harassment about her Faunus nature for so long, Amaya took to wearing clothes that covered up her scales; mostly long sleeved shirts, sweaters, and jeans. After a while people stopped recognizing her with the clothes she wore, the way she styled her hair, and the color of her eyes, it was like they were dealing with an entirely different person altogether. She loved the silence that came from that, from being considered just some socially outcast human rather than a Faunus girl with hopes and dreams.
Of course, the stress that had been relieved by that was added right back onto her, although this time it was of her own doing. As the years went by and her opportunity to try and get into Beacon getting even closer, she grew more and more enamored with the idea of becoming a Huntress. So she took some extra tutoring from the next town over regarding the history and methods of the Hunters and Huntresses she wanted to join the ranks of so badly, and she also found someone to train her how to fight.
She quickly learned she wasn’t very good at fighting. She wasn’t very strong, and didn’t even really have the desire to hurt another person. The old bull Faunus who was teaching her how to fight saw another option, and so he began to teach her how to fire, clean, and maintain rifles. And that was how she found the one thing that she could honestly call a hobby besides studying. She would visit the old bull several times a week for training, she could spend hours on his backwoods shooting range and not even notice the time go by.
As the months went by she realized that she was starting to spend more time at the old bull’s range than her own home, but didn’t really mind. He was teaching her a valuable skill, and he wasn’t judging her for her physical weakness. He was putting her on the right track to become a Huntress, and he was one of a very small handful of people that were helping her.
Finally, the day came that she had been waiting for since she had been a little girl, a piece of mail from Beacon Academy; her acceptance letter.
Personality: Amaya is rather introverted and shy, which could be considered odd qualities for someone training to be a Huntress. She likes to work, study, eat, and sleep by herself and tends to shy away from contact with most other people unless there is absolutely no way of avoiding it.
Of course, when she does actually need to deal with other people, her complete lack of social skills tends to show in obvious ways. She becomes nervous and unsure of what to say, stuttering and nervous laughter tend to permeate anything she says.
Strength: The girl is smart, clever, and a remarkably quick thinker. She can identify solutions to problems and situations before most other people can even see the problem coming. Amaya can make up for her lack of physical merit within a team by using her tactics and knowledge.
Weakness: She is susceptible to ice based attacks as well as cold temperatures in general, becoming much weaker and slower when faced with that sort of environment as a result of her cold blooded reptile nature.
Amaya isn’t a particularly strong or capable fighter, she’s just about below average. She got into Beacon on scholastic merit alone. While she can hold her own in a fair fight, and even then only barely, she doesn’t possess the level of martial skills that almost every other student at Beacon has.
Semblance: Hypnosis/Power of Suggestion
Amaya can influence others thoughts and actions with her voice or with prolonged eye contact. It exerts her influence over their mind regarding simple suggestions or commands, but if a person is strong willed enough it will have no effect. Most average people would be able to sense the attempted suggestions in their mind as a sort of fuzzy thought, and are capable of resisting if they were aware of what is happening.
Normally this ability is only able to affect one person at a time, but under enough stress and with enough drive she can influence small groups of people at once but this leaves her exhausted and unable to use the power against until she is able to get a proper night of sleep.
How long and how effective her power of suggestion varies depending on the willpower of the person she uses it on. Most commonly she can maintain a person's focus long enough to plant a single thought or suggestion in their mind, and from there it is up to the person whether or not they are capable of resisting the suggestion or if they even recognize it as not a thought they would typically have on their own. An implanted thought could take up to 10 minutes to fully take hold in a mind and attempt to influence their actions accordingly.
Against Grimm, her power of suggestion is only enough to distract them temporarily or possibly put them to sleep depending on how focused she is on her target.
WEAPONName: AH-5
Primary Form: The weapon is primarily a single shot bolt action Anti Material Rifle, firing shells capable of erasing anything less than a literal mountain of armor from existence from extremely long range. That is of course assuming she has time to set up her rifle, zero in on her target, and make the shot.
Secondary Form: By changing out the barrel, stock, and receiver of the rifle (a process she has mastered and is capable of doing between 30 or 40 seconds as long as she isn’t distracted), she can convert it to a much more portable combat rifle in situations where she wouldn’t be able to properly provide overwatch or long ranged support.
History: When designing this weapon, Amaya took into account her ineptitude with close combat and knowledge that she was best suited to support a team of hunters or huntresses with her tactics and oversight and realized she would completely eschew the traditional melee component of her weapon, instead opting for a versatile and multi-purpose rifle.
She went through several different prototypes of the rifle, testing them thoroughly and training with them for weeks before scrapping them and moving to other designs. Finally she settled on this version of the rifle, and decided to keep it. It was her fifth complete redesign of the rifle, hence the number in the weapon’s designation.
While out in the field or in training exercises she wears a backpack carrying all the ammo and replacement parts for the rifle that she needs, as well as a field cleaning kit.
((TL;DR: She basically made an
XM8))
