Aran Locke Empty

CHARACTER

Name: Aran Locke

Age: 27

Gender: Male

Symbol: A closed gate, in the middle of a forest

Occupation: Freelancer/Bounty Hunter

Appearance: Aran is an exceptionally pale, gaunt man, with bags constantly hanging under his eyes. He stands below average height at 5'7" and weighs a slight 130 lbs. He has a narrow face, with a pronounced jawline and cheekbones due to his low weight. His eyes are a dark green, and his hair is entirely grey, having done so prematurely during his adolescence. He allows his hair to hang loose slightly past his shoulders. He has very little fat on his body, and what muscle is there, while powerful, is only just maintained by his Aura. More often than not he can be found standing tall, as if in defiance of his condition.

History:  Born into an average family, Aran's life was slated to be rather typical. However, during his first birthday, a toast was given for him, saying, "May he live in interesting times." Nothing came of it, initially, but his parents were wary for some time afterwards, always keeping a close watch on him.

At the age of ten, Aran started falling ill, with most of the symptoms focused in his chest. After a week had passed, he began coughing up blood, and was rushed to the nearest medical center for diagnosis and treatment. After a few long days of tests and treatments, it was discovered that his body was attacking itself from the inside. In a bid to get his condition under control, Aran's Aura was unlocked, and he vastly improved over a relatively short time span, although he still has lingering chest congestion and a persistent cough that can strike at inopportune moments.

In spite of his perpetual illness, the youth managed to enroll at Signal, seeing it as a challenge to overcome, as well as a way to ensure he could make something more of his life than merely being sick throughout. While his classroom scores were above average, his combat scores left much to be desired. During tournaments he would often forfeit after being brought down to half of his Aura levels, leading to low standings. Late in his second year, however, he discovered his semblance, and started using it to make comeback victories where he would have previously surrendered. As a result, his combat ratings skyrocketed in his third year, when he used his feeble appearance to his advantage to lure opponents in close before making his strikes. This was mitigated during his final year at Signal, though he still retained sufficient combat scores to later enroll at Beacon.

Beacon proved particularly arduous for Aran, as the Grimm have no Aura for him to draw upon. Despite the hardships, however, he persisted, and even came to thrive, living for the thrill of hunting Grimm as he came to his later years. After graduation, however, his team split apart, and without having others there to rely upon during Grimm hunts, Aran began drifting away from it, not wanting to just throw his life away needlessly.

Personality: Aran is intensely loyal, both to those he considers friends and his own ideals. Whenever presented with the opportunity, he will throw himself in harms way to protect another, placing a much higher value on the lives of others than his own. Despite the sense of finality he feels in regards to his life, he maintains a more upbeat attitude, refusing to let his illness get the better of his attitude. As with danger, he'll place the well being of others above his own, and will often brush off concerns for him in favor of taking care of others.

Strength: Aran excels in combat against humans and Faunus, due to the fact that they have Aura. His fighting style affords him greater opportunity to use his Semblance.

Weakness: His fighting style is somewhat reckless, placing him in greater danger, though it also tends to lend him greater opportunity to use his Semblance. He is incapable of healing any injuries using his own Aura, instead requiring nature to take it's course or another's Aura to leech off of. He also tires very easily, with any strenuous exertion beyond his normal range of activity requiring a short period to catch his breath.

Semblance: Vampirism; Aran is capable of drawing on another's Aura to replenish his own or heal any wounds he may have acquired, though he must maintain physical contact to do so. He may not exceed his own Aura level while draining that of another, and any overflow is essentially lost. Five minutes of sustained contact would be necessary for Aran to completely drain someone with a comparable Aura pool. His Semblance does not allow him to heal beyond standard Aura-boosted ability.

WEAPON

Name: Glade (Variable Munitions, Man Portable Auto-Cannon)

Primary Form: Glade resembles a tonfa in general shape, yet is thicker and longer than one of Aran's legs in size. Underneath the barrel is a large bayonet, allowing Aran combat options at point blank range, and the design is sturdy enough to withstand repeated use as a bludgeon. The weapon itself is black in color, with the external action (easily activated from the grip) being a dark metallic green.

Glade can carry multiple ammunition types, being capable of firing standard rounds, Dust-propelled high-recoil rounds (aiding in mobility), HE rounds, and Incendiary munitions. The weapon is capable of holding 8 different internal magazines of caseless rounds, each having a capacity for 30 rounds. All that is needed to cycle between munition types is for Aran to open the action, and close it on the appropriate barrel, an action that takes a scant two seconds with his practiced hands.

Secondary Form: N/A

Tertiary Form: N/A

I have a couple questions regarding the semblance. If it is used to replenish his aura is there any effect if he tries to drain someone when he has a full aura pool? Also, how long does this draining take?

Seeing as the semblance doesn't have much of a downside, you might want to look at those.

I'm not a fan of his semblance to be honest, though I'm always iffy on vampirism semblances. I don't like how quickly it works, as well as the healing's power. A typical rule of thumb I usually use for healing semblances is that they can't restore big wounds, broken bones, and lost limbs. As it is now, there is nothing stopping him from growing back an entire leg or arm in five minutes. I just don't see any worthwhile downsides or risks to it.

My main problems are: lack of downsides: He has nothing that would make him pause to consider not using his semblance. Lack of limits: he can heal any wound and drain forever.

Edit made. The only reason his Semblance is stated to allow him to heal is that his own Aura is incapable of healing him on its own. And there is a downside to it. He absolutely has to get close to use it, and must maintain physical contact to maintain it. Contact is broken, then drainage stops. Not like he's going to have a vice-grip.

In short, his Semblance may be powerful, but he has his own drawbacks otherwise to counterbalance that.
