Marcus Kalidan AKA Savant

Name: Marcus Kalidan more commonly called his nickname Savant

Appearance: Savant has short dark brown messy hair, he where’s on his forehead he wears a pair of goggles with light blue tinted lenses connected together with a leather strap. He where’s a undone tan short sleeved coat with a red button up shirt underneath. He wears darker brown colored pants with a pair of black boots. On his hands he wears gloves covered in plated steel with a slot for a dust container on each. His eyes are dark green and has a jagged scar running down the left side of his face he is five foot 11 and weighs 162 pounds.

Personality:  Savant is a less sociable person on the surface. In a crowded or unfamiliar environment he will not likely converse with others unless it involves his business or was started by another person. He is not cold but is merely untrusting with most people. To onlookers he could be called apathetic or disinterested in the problems that surround people. Only a few people are in his life with which he can show his real self as a man that does care about things and is willing to help out if needed. The people that know him know that he can be a mouthful when it comes to technology and gizmos if you give him a chance or show interest. Under the pressure be it battle or argument he becomes overly analytic trying to find weaknesses to exploit and take advantage of. This has caused many to be pushed away from him. Savant is not a kind of person you immediately want to talk to but when you do you would definitely try to meet with him again.

History: Marcus Kalidan’s child life was held on the outskirts of Vale on the border to the Foreverfall forest. His parent both worked in the dust industry for many years. During this time Marcus always fantasized being a huntsman as he heard lots of news about them from his parents. His parents learned that Marcus had an extraordinary fondness for machines. He would spend hours every day trying to figure out what made a lamp work and constantly pestered his parents on how dust affected things in the world and its application. However a freak accident occurred during one of Marcus’ experiments. Marcus was testing how dust behaved when given a large stimulation. The result created a massive explosion that threw Marcus to the wall, cracking several of his ribs and breaking an arm and leg. The explosion started a blaze in marcus’ room and sent shrapnel into his father in the next door. This  inflicted several injuries to his chest and head.  The incident not only blinded his father and burnt down the house but lost his mother her job. Marcus was 11 years old. From there Marcus still suffering from the mistake he had caused went to attend Signal to pursue his ambitions of being a huntsman. His class regarded him as a tinker, if something broke he could fix it maybe even improve it. It was this that gave him the nickname Savant as he was an expert when it came to dust theory and machines. He made many friends, but none as great as Tila. She and Marcus did everything together (not without mockery). Despite this they were in separable. When it came to weapon creation Tila hit a wall, she could not think of what to make. Marcus proceeded to give her ideas and helped out with the mechanical theory still making sure she was actually the one doing the work. She eventually created a shield that would completely reflect all projectiles using a special use of dust. Marcus’ friends decided to play a joke on her by tampering with the dust inputs essentially sabotaging the shield. On the day to demo her work to the professors she confidently asked for them to have a captured nevermore attack at her to show the reflectiveness of it. The shield failed and Tila was struck down by nevermore. She did not recover. The school banished Marcus believing him to be responsible for the tragedy as he contributed closely to Tila’s project as an overseer of sorts. Marcus believing he had done it again was devastated. His friends came months latter to tell him they were responsible. Marcus shook with fury but did not retaliate. He simply told them, while crying heavily, that he was done with them and Signal and all Huntsman and Huntresses. He was done. Marcus never trusted anyone after that, he saw everyone as a liar and a manipulator. He saw everyone as creatures of cruelty and greed; they were worse than grimm. Marcus changed no longer was the world shiny or colorful, it was damp and murky. From there Marcus took on the Name Savant as his only name for Marcus Kalidan had died inside him.  He left Vale at age 17 and wondered the world offering the towns he came to build defenses against the grimm creatures for a place to stay and eat. He never stayed in one place long, just until the work he had was done. He promised he would return to Vale when he felt he had atoned for all the bad he had caused people. He promised to never forget Tila.

Strength: Savant’s strengths come from his agility and analysis. Even before a fight begins he will search out for his opponent’s behaviors and limitations. Even during the fight he constantly updates what he knows of his attacker to formulate a good strategy. From this he will alter his fighting style to enhance his chances of success. His thin body makes him light and increases his speed allowing for his opponents to become disoriented or become erratic in order to strike him. With all of this he can end fights quicker and more efficiently than some with more brutal attack styles.

Weakness: One of savant’s biggest weakness is a weak aura. His aura cannot with stand as many blows that a normal person may have. This means he can’t afford to get hit or he may quickly be defeated. Another weakness he has is being fooled by analysis, in the heat of an encounter he may not pay attention to certain details or arrive at wrong conclusions from his analysis causing him to make decisions that cost him hits. He is also extremely dependent on his weapon without it he is very vulnerable and has little ways to defend himself or hold his ground without it.

WEAPON

Name:  Alacer Caecus

Primary Form: The Alacer Caecus are two half disc like. Each disk has a blade that has a 140 degrees and is attached to the discs base which slopes upwards to allow the handle underneath it. The metal they are made from is a nickel/steel blend. In combat the Alacer Caecus is used by having the discs slice the enemy in quick swipes while moving around the enemy to inflict damage in several critical areas. They are also used in a whirl attack in which the user spins themselves to inflict more damage (use when enemy is winded/dazed/or knocked down.

Secondary Form/Function:  What separates this weapon is the dust canisters used in the gloves Savant carries. Using them (electric dust) he can throw the Alacer Caesus and use the dust to not only propel them but also have an impact on their gravity allowing them to stay suspended but also orbit around Savant. To demonstrate Savant throws a disc the dust gives it a speed boost and creates an electric burst around it upon hitting it then returns to savant in which it slingshots behind him and is sent back at the enemy. Electric dust can also be used to electrify the discs to stun enemies. Upon return to the hands the weapons are grounded so know harm is given to Savant. The idea of the Alacer Caesus is to be used in conjunction with Savants agility allowing him to attack at a distance and melee although on distance attacks he is more vulnerable as he has to rely on his weapon as a projectile.

History: Alacer Caesus is savant’s own creation applying advanced understanding of the applications to dust and experimentation of different dust. To get the Alacer Caesus at the quality it is now took savant 6 years of constant upgrades and redesigns. The original design was to use different dusts when slicing the enemy to cause variability in attacks. This proved too difficult to properly use and incorporate that Savant stuck with the most practical dusts and tested newer designs until concluding that electric dust was the most valuable to his weapon

What were you going for with the weapon name? My Latin is a bit poor, but I'm getting gladness and blindness, but the grammar is kind of odd.

But that's a linguistic thing. Character-wise? Everything looks good at a look through. A bit familiar, but I don't see any glaring issues.
