Of Bows and ArrowShards

Yuuka walked casually through the halls of beacon, headed for the extensive training arena, giving a few smiles and greetings to teachers that had taught her during her time at beacon. While she wasn't well known by themed to never really caring about much aside from studying and fighting, they probably remembered her as one of their best students. Noticing her weapon and direction, they assumed she was going to make use of the practice facilities and didn't inquire what her purpose here was.

"Behold!" She announced to Yew,as the two arrived in the training area, a massive area dedicated to training. It had anything an aspiring huntress could need. Training dummies, training arenas, marksman ranges and all sorts of other useful amenities.

She began walking towards an empty archery range, assuming Yew was following right behind.

Yuuka gestured towards the range, telling Yew to go first, "Go ahead, I want to see how you shoot." In the meantime, Yuuka moved a short distance to a mat where she could practice with her daggers without any chance of accidentally eviscerating someone, although she was still making sure to watch Yew

"Hey, you're actually as good as you said, nice!" Yuuka encouraged as she began tearing away at a training dummy with both of her daggers.

"Thanks! But I'm not really that good! Any experienced close combat specialist would be able to beat me easily, I only practice with these in case Grimm get to close range where I can't use my bow." Yuuka said cheerfully, combining her daggers back into a bow. She walked up to the target, "Here, let me show you what a scope is good for!"

She spent a few seconds gauging multiple factors - the wind (Not that there was any, but it was habit), the range, the weight of these training arrows and these aerodynamics, and focused carefully before finally firing three arrows in a row with several seconds in between each. Each arrow hit the cente of the bullseye, mere millimeters between each.

"See, there's no need to rush. Spend more time on lining up a good shot, and you'll get a good shot! Envision the shot a thousand times in your head before you fire it." She said, lowering her bow and stepping back.

"A mix of long years of experience fighting Grimm all across the world, in every kingdom, and constant practice back when I was here in beacon. And by constant practice, I mean every moment I wash studying, eating or sleeping I was practicing my shooting. Though I don't recommend taking that route..." Yuuka frowned, "Sure, I shoot well now, but I never had any friends here because I was too busy studying and training. Was it really worth it? I'm not so sure..."

Yuuka moved back, splitting her bow back into knives and practicing her eviscerating on a in my once more.

"Hmm, not sure really. I just felt... Unfulfilled I guess? I was traveling the world, sure. I was helping out a lot of people, sure. But I just felt like nothing I was doing was having much impact. With this job I can do things with a lot more impact than just helping a farmer who's farm is being terrorised by Grimm." Yuuka said, as she spun around in a graceful coup de grace, decapitating the dummy. Frowning, she moved to replace it.

"Well... That's enough about me, I think... I know your story and why you're here, but why join up with what is basically a mercenary group to fight pirates? Why not do something safer like attend one of the combat schools? Maybe not beacon, if you don't want to run into Shard, but you could've attended something like Signal." Yuuka asked, as she split another dummy in half, this time from the middle outwards.

"Ahh... Well fair enough." Yuuka said, feeling the conversation drying up as she moved to the nearest free archery range, reforming her bow.

With a look of intense focus, she began to fire a constant stream of arrows, one every few seconds, at the target, almost all of them hitting the bullseye, and the few that didn't, hit the very edge of it.

"Not really... We'll be put on hold at first, but as soon as we hear about a pirate attack we'll be rushing there to stop it as fast as possible. The ship we're going to be using is very fast for its strength, so if all goes to plan we'll be able to catch the pirates." Yuuka said, "Ooh right, look at this. A little trick I picked up on my travels!"

Moving over to a conveniently placed metal bar nearby so that it was directly below her, Yuuka jumped up, flipping so that she was hanging by her feet from the bar, and from that position she loosed several arrows at the target. All three hit the bullseye, although one only by a millimetre.

"Heh, when you're doing a trick like this it's all about instincts - you really can't predict most of the important aspects of shooting hanging like this." Yuuka said, dropping back down and stretching out, moving towards a bench to take a break.

Yuuka curiously watched Yew wielding her whip for a while, wondering why she would use a whip along with a bow. For the range maybe? But then a spear would just as good, if not better. For the fear aspect? Unlikely, the Grimm weren't afraid of something like a whip - if they did know fear, they would probably fear a more conventional weapon more, such as a sword. Maybe she had a lot of experience with it? Heh. Yuuka laughed mentally at that one.

"So why do you use a whip along with your bow? It doesn't seem like it synergizes with your bow very well," She asked, deciding to just ask the owner of the weapon instead of making up increasingly ridiculous guesses.

Yuuka nodded, seeing some merits in using a whip. Personally though, she would never use one, especially not if she had to use the bowstring for the whip part. Sure, the bowstring could be converted to a decent whip, but it wouldn't be nearly effective enough to warrant damaging the string like that. Although that was just her thoughts - perhaps the girl had worked out a way to make it work well.

Catching the drink, she drank it quickly, nodding in thanks, "Aside from splitting into a pair of dagger? I have special ammunition, but I'd rather not waste it - the ammunition isn't exactly cheap, and I don't have much to spend on arrows. You'll probably see it when we actually fight, I guess." She said.

"What do your arrows do? I have flash arrows, fire arrows and an arrow with a rope pulley attached. Though I tend to go to the best blacksmiths I know, it's especially hard to make the pulley arrows, and balancing the others just right is no easy task." Yuuka replied.
