Alani Fields Empty
PostSubject: Alani Fields   Alani Fields Icon_minitimeFri Sep 13, 2013 12:48 am

Basics:

Name: Alani Fields
Age: 17
Birthday: November 2
Gender: Female
Academy: Beacon

Nationality: Alani was born on a small tropical island where the hot sun beamed down almost year-round. The cool ocean breeze and frequent, yet brief downpours kept the area at bearable temperatures even on the hottest of summers. Palm trees adorned even the busiest of streets, giving the island its relaxing charm and breathtaking vistas. While her birthplace may have seemed like an idealistic utopia for some, it was something Alani had grown used to, even during her temporary visits.

That's right. Although she was born on that tiny island, the place Alani called home was miles away, across the ocean. In fact, it was in a completely different continent! Down under the equator, a much larger mass of land housed thousands, if not millions more people than the small island could hold, including most of her family. With a denser population, especially just a few miles off the shore, the streets were much more crowded and the buildings much taller. It was quite the contrast to the small town she grew up in.

Symbol: A round icon resembling an orange fruit.

Personality:

Alani is pretty outgoing. She loves to share her knowledge and help others, especially those younger than her. Going into Beacon, she's quite confident in her abilities and has no problem bragging on occasion. Though she may generally mean well, there are times where she may come off as rude, giving the wrong impression. Her behavior can get a little outrageous sometimes too, which introduces a whole different set of problems, particularly among those with authority. Who knows what crazy antics she'll get involved in at this new school?

Strengths:

  • Loyal
  • Likes teaching
  • Developing leadership skills
  • Flexible
  • Agile
  • High stamina
  • Accurate

Weaknesses:

  • Stubborn
  • Overconfident at times
  • Sometimes zones out
  • Worries more about others than herself
  • Limited ammo
  • Weapon can be lost

Character History:

Alani always considered herself to be an average girl. When she was just a toddler, adults would ask her what she wanted to be when she grew up. Her answer was always the same: "I don't know," coupled with a childish shrug. Nothing truly piqued her interests, nor was she very good at anything. Then again, who could say they had any useful skills at the age of five?

Over the years Alani made a few friends and travelled often between her tropical homeland and the much larger continent miles across the ocean where most of her family lived. Having been raised with her family in such a far away place, she developed an accent resembling what sounded like a combination between a British and an Australian accent. Whenever she returned to her birthplace, the local children sometimes made fun of the way she talked, which naturally wasn't something she looked forward to.

Alani had her ways of letting off steam though. At the age of ten her grandfather surprised her with a rather unique toy. The gift, wrapped in nothing but some old newspapers, was a wooden boomerang, hand-carved by none other than the old man himself. While it was meant to be played with, Alani quickly learned just how dangerous the toy could be if aimed at the right target and thrown just the right way. It was an accident, of course, the first time at least. Out in the fields she played one day. With nothing better to do, she challenged herself to see just how high she could throw her boomerang without losing it. Wouldn't you know it that on her final attempt, throwing with all her strength, she nailed an albatross right on the head. Alani couldn't believe it! After the first, she continued to hone her aim in the following days. Whenever she was bullied, she'd take it out on the local wildlife. If she was feeling extra pissy, she'd even go after the more dangerous predators, like wildcats.

Hunting became a skill, her only skill. As time passed, Alani continued to hone that skill. It gave her a sense of accomplishment whenever she'd land a hit and fell her "opponents" to the ground. Guilt did eventually kick in, leading her to stay away from anything she deemed "too cute to kill." That may have also been thanks to her parents' guidance. They knew they couldn't stop her, especially once she hit her teenage years. "Some people are just born to hunt." Those were the words of her grandfather who did his best to ease the minds of Alani's mother and father. The best they could do was lead her down a more righteous path in hopes that she would not use her abilities for malicious purposes.

At the age of sixteen, her peers had already noticed just how good Alani had become. Rather than ridiculing her for the way she spoke, she was praised and even mimicked by those who looked up to her. Seeing how skilled she truly was, her father suggested enrolling her in some kind of martial arts school. With her non-academic fighting style and sometimes outrageous behavior, she was inevitably rejected from several institutions. Months of searching bore no results, leaving Alani and her family distraught and concerned for her future.

Luckily, there was… one last hope. Alani had seen brochures on her travels overseas advertising a school for the gifted. No formal training required to apply. That sure got her thinking. It took some coercing, and a little help from her grandfather, but in the end her parents allowed her to study abroad at Beacon Academy.

This is her last shot. If she can't make it here...

Weapon:

Name: Boom-Orange

  • Boomerang that shoots mini-bombs shaped like small oranges.
  • Long-range Boomerang (thrown)
  • Mid-range mini-bombs (shot)
  • Short-range Boomerang (handheld, blunt weapon)
  • Mostly orange colored with green tips and thin brown stripes in between.
  • Locked into a leather glove for mid-range fighting.
  • Ammo held in two symmetrical chambers inside the boomerang.

Primary Function: Boomerang
Secondary Function: Mini-bomb shooter

Weapon History:

Alani was fond of her trusty old boomerang, handed to her as a gift from her grandfather. Unfortunately, she knew that wasn't going to be enough. If she was going to get into Beacon, she needed something better, stronger, more versatile. The pamphlets featured students donning blades, guns, shields, guns… more guns. Some could transform, while others had multiple configurations and uses. They all seemed much more advanced than her medium-sized wooden boomerang.

After some long thought and careful consideration, and some help from her old grandpa, Alani created something she could call her very own while learning a thing or two about craftsmanship as well. Her new weapon, which she (im)maturely called the "Boom-orange" was a hybrid weapon, inspired by the featured Beacon alumni she had seen along with some lengthy research done in advance. The material was a metal alloy, strong with a balanced weight which made it heavy enough to be thrown and aerodynamic enough to fly in a smooth curve exactly where she wanted it to go. Besides that, the inside was somewhat hollow to make room for a firing mechanism. Alani planned on not only throwing the boomerang from long-range, but shooting small mini-bombs ("coincidentally" shaped like little oranges) from mid-range as well. That was effectively the "gun" component in her mind. Overall, it was everything she wanted it to be: strong, fast, versatile, and unique.

Of course, there were a few prototypes before the final product, but naming it the "Boom-orange Mk 4" gave away just how many attempts it took her to perfect her design. While it may have been a little white lie, she wanted to walk into Beacon with an air of confidence that implied the creation of the Boom-orange was no challenge for her at all.
