Subject: Minerva "Tequila" Ortega Wed Nov 27, 2013 3:46 am
CHARACTER
Name:Minerva "Tequila" Ortega y Lucientes
Age:18; Day 27 Month 11
Gender:Female
Symbol:
Spoiler:
Occupation: Student
Appearance: Tequila stands 5'8, not including her fox-ears, making her a little shorter than is typical. She has a lithe, athletic frame - not too much muscle, a conscious choice on her part - and prefers lightweight clothes that don't impede her movement. When she's carrying her weapon, she also uses a decoratively-feathered half-skirt at her hip to hide the sheathe. The skirt, and most of her outerwear, have her personal logo on it. She has blonde hair and is, unusually, heterochromic, one eye green and the other red.
History: Like a lot of Faunus, Tequila went through life being treated as a second-class citizen, a status she was never really sure what to think of - sure, the bullying and maltreatment sucked, but on the other hand, the lack of expectations and attention left her plenty of time to do whatever she liked. Train, mostly; Tequila never tired of exploring the limits of her body, and found a particular fascination with the sword, eventually creating her own with no small amount of effort and expense. As she neared her adulthood, she realised that she'd reached the limit of what she was going to be able to learn on her own; her tenure to Beacon is more to enhance her own skills than the usual goal of becoming a Monster Hunter for fame or fortune or whatever others like - to her, reaching the peak of her ability is her reason for everything.
Her nickname stems from her preferred drink, and she's quite derisive of people who drink tequila with training wheels.
Personality: Tequila is a fairly relaxed person. While she can get fired up, she's more likely to shrug something off or just smile it away, and barbed words rarely reach her. It's hard to tell, however, whether this is her actual personality, or a muted one she's learned to not cause trouble.
Strengths: Tequila is quite perceptive and well-read, particularly in regards to the art of war, giving her a surprising breadth of tactical knowledge, both small and large-scale. She also has very good hearing and a surprisingly accurate sense of smell. In combat, her acrobatic ability and high speed are her primary advantage.
Weakness: Physically, Tequila's fox ears and tail (usually hidden under her skirts) are a weakness - they're quite sensitive, which means having them touched is distracting and if an opponent gets a hold of them then the pain can become quite overwhelming. Her primary weakness, however, is social: Tequila is a Faunus, and consequently is a second-class citizen, bullied, reviled, and locked out of opportunities presented to others. Finally, her weapon lacks any built-in ability for ranged combat.
Semblance: Tequila's Semblance is nicknamed "G-Drive", and is personalized gravity control - although unable to effect other targets, she can use this to jump long distances, or to traverse walls and ceilings, or to stop herself from being injured by a high fall.
WEAPON
Name: Excessburn
Primary Form: Excessburn's primary form is a standard-length katana, a decision Tequila made after no small amount of consideration. The weapon is plain and undecorated; the actual trick lies in the hilt, which has been hollowed out and contains a device similar to a jet engine. Tequila's fighting style incorporates this engine as a core principle, using it to travel long distances at high speed and to add force to her strokes. Despite the size of the weapon, Tequila is quite capable of using it one-handed and ambidextrously, a skill she drilled into herself with long hours of work.
Secondary Form: Excessburn's secondary form folds the blade and hilt into heavy twin bracelets that wrap around Tequila's wrists, adding weight and mass to her unarmed ability. In this form, Excessburn's jet engine is available to both bracelets in any direction, and can thus be used as either a mobility aid or to add power to her blows.
Tertiary Form: Excessburn's third form, and only default non-close quarters ability, uses the bracelets as a medium-range weapon. This is achieved by abusing a quirk of its creation: the material Excessburn is made of is unusually Aura-resonant, and this resonation allows Tequila to manipulate her rings at a medium distance, although this hardly makes up for her lack of a ranged attack. More notable is that by overcharging her weapon with Aura, she can create fairly large explosions when the rings smack into something, although this is both exhausting and, when fully charged, "burns out" the material for a period of time, preventing her from using this 'form'.
History: Excessburn's history isn't really anything to write home about; Tequila made it with much hard work, after a series of failed prototypes, and it's been her weapon ever since. The name refers to her logo, the fact that it has features which can be considered excessive for a sword, and the jet engine (as in "afterburner").
