Fei assumed a relaxed, but alert, stance; spear held out to the side as she looked around at the after-math results of their brief skirmish with the Grimm. Tilting her head, she lightly kicked one of the dead Wulve's by her feet and blinked. "Was that all of them, Rachael?" She would ask, turning her head as she stabbed her spear into the corpse.

A growling sound came from the brush just nearby, and yet more grimm appeared. Still beowolves, nothing else.

"I guess not." she said as she pointed her sword at them, taking a few lazily aimed potshots. She managed to kill one via headshot and maim one or two more, but she wasn't really trying. These grimm were childs play. As Rachael shot at the grimm, she slowly backed towards Fei. They were charging them now, about four more of the things, as Rachael attempted to pick them off before they could get there. "Hm, there still might be more." she said as she got close to Fei, the wolves now within melee range.

Fei nodded, spinning the spear around and flipping over the side to send a sharp blow down on one of the oncoming beowulves, cracking it's skull open as it laid there in a morbidly comical death pose. Stepping over and using the dead beowulf as a stepping stone, she launched herself off and stomped her foot down on one. Temporarily dazed, the beowulf swiped out at her nonetheless, but was met with red vision as it felt a sharp pain at the back of it's neck. The last of it's dying vision was of a glistening red, metallic tip poking out of it's throat before it was violently wrenched out.

Leaping off the second beowulf, Fei's neck tingled as she sensed danger, turning around she just barely caught the glint of black fur and claws; raising and holding her spear at such an angle to block it. The blow was strong, powerful, the sound of metal snapping was all she could hear as the ground beneath her turned into a flurry of green and brown before 'thwack', she'd hit a tree and slumped over on the forest floor.

"Fei!" Rachael yelled as she watched her companion hit a tree and slump to the ground, most likely unconscious. With a growl, she charged the grimm that had hit her companion. It attempted to swipe at her, but she managed to cut its limbs off and run it through with her blade before it could. She looked around to see yet more grimm were arriving.

"Damn, how many are there?" she muttered before turning towards Fei, then the grimm. There were another five here, and Fei was unconscious. Without her noticing, they had already surrounded. She had no choice but to stand and fight, which might become a problem with Fei being knocked out.

"Damnit..." was all that came out of her mouth when the Beowolves came at her.

Her vision was black for the longest moment, with the air in her lungs refusing to cooperate as she struggled to breathe, then with a faint snarl; Fei gasped and the light flooded into her eyes. Sitting up quickly, she fumbled around for her spear and felt her hand close around it's metal shaft, standing up she had aimed to twirl her spear around .. but instead she felt a heavy object hitting her shoulder and blinked, looking down at her spear; at first she was shocked but the urgency of the situation knocked aside what questions and experimentation she would leave for later. Leaping behind a Beowulf that did not notice her, she lashed out her strange new weapon like a whip, smacking it across the spine with a sharp bwok. It stumbled forward, spinning around to face her before another, more powerful blow came from above; then it's vision faded to black as warm blood flowed down it's snout.

Leaping over the dead Grimm, her eyes scanned the scenario and she noticed that Rachael seemed to be having some trouble with the remaining four, no, make that three. Smiling, Fei changed her grip on the strange staff-like, chain-like weapon to center mass; twirling it about like she would her spear before snapping it around a low branch, allowing herself to swing the last remaining distance to assist Rachael with the remaining Grimm, if she'd not already done so by the time Fei got there.

Rachael hadn't noticed Fei wake up since she had been focusing on the Grimm so much, so when Fei came back around to finish off the last few in front of her she looked visibly surprised.

"Fei? Are you alright?" she said as she decapitated the last remaining Grimm before walking over to her companion. "You got hit pretty hard, I mean I know you're pretty damn strong and all but..." Her expression of surprise changed to one of deep concern. "You were knocked unconscious, are you sure you should be moving like this?"

Fei blinked, still clutching the bloodied three-sectioned staff in her hand, as she looked around at the carnage they had wrought, the stench of blood heavy in the air. For a moment she was alright, steady and balanced, but as Rachael approached she began feeling more and more light-headed before her vision blacked out once again, her body falling back on top of a dead Beowulf. Clearly what had just occurred was of combative instinct and twitch reflexes, Fei was now out cold and incapacitated.

With a gasp, Rachael rushed over to her companion's side and caught her before she could land on the Beowolf below her.

"Fei!" she exclaimed as she gently dragged her companion to the side and away from the carnage. The canine lightly shook her companion before realizing it would probably be best to carry her someplace safe. A few howls from distant Beowolves made her agree with that thought. Unfortunately, the direction that the howls were coming from also came from the direction of Beacon.

"Not going that way then." she said as she scooped the girl up in her arms and carried her quickly in the opposite direction of the Grimm. It wasn't until about five minutes later that she found a small cave. A quick inspection of the surrounding areas told her they were alone for a good amount of time. Maybe Fei would wake up soon? It would be best to set her down now, which is what Rachael did. She laid her companion against a wall not too far inside the cave and went a little deeper in. It was a dead end not too far in, meaning no Grimm would come from inside.

"Good, I can leave and forage for wood not too far out. I mean, there are trees like, two feet from the cave. But it'd be best if I got some far away, as not to attract attention to Fei. But then I'd have to leave her? Damn." she thought to herself as she pondered the solutions.

It didn't take long for her to gather her thoughts and come up with a conclusion. She's just cut off a branch or two of a nearby tree, which would probably draw attention, but she was ready for it. Fei was in a cave, so all she had to do was guard her until she awoke. So that's what she did.

For less than ten minutes, Rachael used her sword to cut down tree branches and collect them as firewood. Bringing them back, she set up a small pile of firewood a good distance away from Fei and lit them on fire with some fire dust she loaded into her sword. The fire was far enough so it didn't burn, but not so far as to where the sleeping girl didn't feel it. With a sigh, the faunus girl sat next to her unconscious companion's body, hoping she would awake and be alright. And so, she began to wait.

It would be another good half hour until Fei's body twitched involuntarily, the warmth of the fire warming up her sore limbs and quivering digits, the girl sucked in a deep breath of air before coughing violently. The sound of which echoed all across the cave as the young Huntress sat up and coughed, holding a hand up to her mouth, her body still seemed to be feeling the effects of being knocked into a tree; surprise her spine simply didn't snap on contact. The pain she felt was worse then when Rachael broke her hand, really. And that was rather painful, the swelling took several days to die down, and then she had to go through minor therapy to make sure her hand was still usable. Recovering from her coughing fit, her breathing slowed to a gentle 'phooo' and 'haaa'. Looking around, she spotted Rachael and smiled, but then became concerned as she didn't recognize her surroundings.

"Rachael?"

"Oh, good. You're awake." Rachael said relieved upon seeing and hearing Fei wake up. She looked out of the cave, frowning once she realized it was dark out. She hadn't even noticed the time. Right now the sun was setting, indicating they've been out here most of the afternoon. Despite wanting to let the girl rest, they needed to leave immediately. Unless something happened. The worst case scenario is that they die, but that was the case with everything. It was too extreme and most likely would not happen, meaning the next runner up to worst case scenario was simply having to camp out here for the night. Fei was in a lot of pain, and it was probably best if she just slept and rested for a while. Rachael could fend for herself and Fei, but what happened was up to her, not Rachael.

"Are you alright? How much does it hurt to move?" she asked as she moved over to Fei to check on her. "It's not a good idea to move after getting hit like that. I'd much rather you just rest for now."

Fei took a deep breath, but immediately began sputtering and coughing again as she did so, clamping a hand around her mouth to muffle the noise; noting the amount of effort and time Rachael must have spent just to drag her limp body inside and avoid Beowulves at the same time. Calming down, she decided to take smaller increments in her desire to breath. Sighing, she leaned against the cave wall and attempted to pull herself up, but the sore muscles and painfully sharp buzz at her back said to do otherwise.

"I"m sorry .. I'm really trying .. but I can't." Fei would say, looking away from her companion as she depressingly laid her arms and hands down on her own lap.

"Just lay down. It's best we stay here for a while." she said as she walked over to Fei and slowly pushed her onto her back, putting her hand behind her to ease her down. "It's okay, I'll keep you safe until you can move again." And with that, she sat next to her companion.

The sound of very distant Beowolves could be heard from outside the cave. Hopefully they wouldn't find their way here, but Rachael assumed the worst and picked up her sword as she waited until the cries would get close enough. Until then, she sat cross legged next to Fei and made sure she was okay.

"Do you need anything?" she asked as she grasped her sword in her gauntlet hand just to her side.

Fei grunted as she felt her back rest on the cave floor, her eyes closing as she attempted to relax herself. After a moment, she opened her eyes and turned her head to look up at Rachael, smiling.

"No, not really .. can I get you anything?" She would ask, actually more concerned for the protector then the protected. Herself.

"What are you talking about? I appreciate the concern, but you're the hurt one here. Just lay back and do your best to relax... on the cold stone floor..." she said before cursing herself for not thinking about it before. She looked into her bag for anything she could have Fei lay on. Anything that would let her be comfortable or relax easier. Her bag was pretty big, maybe she could use that as a pillow? She extracted the contents of the bag and laid them onto the floor. Most of it was dust bottles and grenades and the usual supplies that she often kept in her belt. There was a lot of the stuff that now lay next to Fei, but not too close, as to get in the way. Luckily, one of the things in her bag was a scarf. That could be useful, right?

"Here." Rachael said as she gently lifted Fei's head up and put her bag, as well as the neatly folded scarf, underneath the girl to elevate her head like a pillow. She was just happy she could help.

"Get better soon, okay?" she said as she watched her companion with a warm smile, making sure that all was well.

Fei held back a giggle as Rachael seemed to fret over her, something the young girl still wasn't used to seeing in the dog faunus. Letting out a soft grunt at the brief time she spent lifted, then let out a soft sigh of relief as she was laid down to a more comfortable position and padding to boot. She wasn't going to complain or anything .. and Rachael did not have to do all of that, now the risk of all of her equipment and tools being destroyed just increased if they came under attack. Closing her eyes she nodded, doing her best to recuperate. "Thanks .. I'll try to get better soon." She would say as she slowed her breathing and attempted to sleep.

"Mmm, good. Night then, Fei." she said as she turned slightly towards the fire, enough so she could watch and manage both the flames and Fei. She would have to pay attention to both, as well as look outside and listen for any approaching Grimm. Hopefully they wouldn't find them, but the chances were high considering they were basically lighting up a cave. Then again, she had placed them towards the back as to draw as minimal attention as possible, so maybe it wouldn't be that bad? Only time would tell.

As Fei slowly drifted off to sleep, Rachael reached into Fei's bag and pulled out the tea she hadn't bothered to finish. It was half empty, but it had a bit of sugar in it so it might help keep her awake. It was for the best. Plus she was dehydrated, but she'd need to leave at least half of what was remaining left for Fei, if not more. She didn't want to take all of it for herself. As she did so, she listened for anything that wasn't the sound of the cackling fire, or the sound of Fei breathing. There was nothing, so for the moment they were safe. But she didn't know how long she could stay awake, or for how long she could protect Fei from the Beowolves. Maybe they would get to her and kill both of them? No, she wouldn't let them. She has been through too much bullshit to to just up and die, especially after finding a mate.

"You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?" she muttered to herself, thinking of her past and what could possibly happen next. She hoped nothing would happen, or rather, she wouldn't let it happen. For Fei.

Rachael's good night was heard and Fei had intended to say it back, but somewhere along the way it had been forgotten and she'd fallen asleep. The young girl had drifted away into Dreamland, leaving her companion to fend them off alone against whatever dangers may come for them, be they Beowulves or the fire going out. The last may or may not have been a boon, depending on who you asked, but being that it was just Rachael and a sleeping Fei; there wasn't much opinion going around. And so .. several hours passed by.

Five hours later ...

The sound of combat wakes the young Huntress up, her eyes blinking open to the faint glow of the early mornings and the smell of once burning wood and blood. The last scent caused Fei to sit up, grunting as the previous day's injuries made themselves apparent. She gasped as a dead beowulf fell in front of her, her hand automatically going out to grope around on the cave floor for her weapon, of which she found a few moments later and automatically whacked the dead wulf.

"Rachael?!" Fei would cry out, looking around for the dog faunus as her eyes adjusted to the cave's interior.

The sound of another dead Beowolf hitting the ground near Fei would probably wake the girl up for good. The faunus girl looked over to her companion, eyes drooping as her breaths were very very heavy, almost wheezes actually. Her clothes were torn and bloodstained everywhere, and it was a surprise to her that they still clung to her body. Her shirt and vest were covered in holes around her stomach, sides, arms, and back. Her chest was slightly visible, and had a long deep cut running across it, as well as several smaller ones all around her body. Her head was leaking blood over her left eye, forcing her to close it, and she had a few cuts on her cheeks and nose. Her legs were covered in scrapes, bruises, and long cuts, and her kneesocks were hole filled. The only thing that looked remotely unscathed were her shoes and feet.

"Oh, hey... Fei..." she managed to mutter between her wheezes/heavy panting. She barely managed to swing her sword with enough force to land a killing blow on the last Beowolf, but afterwards she fell to the floor. She was covered moreso in her own blood than the blood of the 12+ beowolves that lay dead on the cavern floors. Their limp bodies lay, not doing anymore than twitching on the floor around Rachael's coughing and bleeding form. The wounds looked fresh, as if the attack was very recent, and she looked like she was barely tolerating all the pain she was in.

"Are ya... feeling... better?" she said in a raspy voice between her panting, barely managing to muster up a weak smile as she turned her head towards Fei.

Fei's eyes widened, her voice and cry a mere squeak as she tried to call out Rachael's name, tears welling as she scrambled to get up and go over towards Rachael; not caring that she was crawling over blood and other such things as she did so. The pain from the previous day had been forgotten, left aside, discarded and relegated to a non-important secondary role in Fei's mind as she gently held Rachael and pulled her down slowly, letting the faunus rest against her as she pondered what to do. First of course, she was ecstatic, frightened and amazed at how Rachael managed to hold them off for so long, noting that Fei herself must have been an easy target considering how close all of the dead beowulves were. The young girl's hands wandered over the faunus's wounds, taking tender care not to cause too much pain as she examined them. They lacked any medical supplies, they had a first aid kit but what was that going to do for this?

"Rachael .. Rachael, are you okay ..?" Fei would ask, looking down into her companion's eyes.

"I-I'll be fine..." she mumbled as she looked up at Fei, mustering as much of a smile as she could. "I'm not gonna... gonna die on you... Ever." she said between heavy breaths and gasping for air. It was so hard to breath right now, she could hardly stand it. But anything for Fei. She would put up with things worse than this for Fei.

"H-Hey... are you... you feeling better?" she said as she tried to sit up, the pain causing her to wince and immediately laying back down. "S-Sorry I woke you up... you should... go back to sleep. You need the... the rest." she said as the pain from the wound across her chest made her gasp out for air. It hurt so much, but she didn't care. As long as Fei was alive and well.

Fei frowned at the faunus's plight and gently lifted her as best as she could, dragging her back to what was once her make-shift bed. Seeing no alternative, she laid Rachael's body and rested her head against the cushioned backpack before pulling off her clothing and battle gear. From her own clothes she tore off several long strips of fabric to act as makeshift bandages, then the rest were turned into simple rags for cleaning up blood and other fluids.

"Shhh, you rest .. tell me, did you see any plants or herbs around the forest I can use to make anti-septics, anti-bacterial or otherwise helpful salves that can treat your injuries ..?" Fei would ask, using the rest of her un-tattered clothes as a blanket for Rachael. At least until Fei got around to skinning the beowulves for their fur, anyway.

"Y-Yes... Purple things, with many small bulbous flowers... towards the end of the stem. There... is also a small spring nearby... go outside and head left, it's just a few minutes away. Might as well get something to drink, it was made mostly of fresh water... oh and..." she said as she began to close her eyes to rest. "Please, my scroll is just right over there." she said as she motioned with her head towards her scroll which lay just a few feet away. She took it out of her bag to make the pillow for Fei, and hadn't bothered to even look at it.

"Call for help... please... You're still hurt... I can't move very well..." she mumbled as her eyes began drooping a little bit. She tried her best to stay awake, but it was troublesome to do so. "Quickly... call for help... go get the flowers and water..." she mumbled as she slowly drifted off to sleep.

Fei nodded, noting the distinctive details Rachael pointed out, including the spring water and the bulbous flowers with the purple things. Writing them down mentally in her head, she put a hand over Rachael's forehead and slowly stroked it, not wanting to touch the faunus's head lest she injure her further, after sitting there to make sure her companion was safe; Fei stood up and looked about for her broken spear. Not minding the details of how it still managed to hang around, she picked it up and looked back at the sleeping form of her lover once more before disappearing out the mouth of the cave.

Half an hour later ...

Rubbing the dirt from her cheeks and nose, Fei spread out the bulbous flowery herbs and the two thermos's filled with water side by side. Now without Rachael's instructions, she attempted to recall on her own what to do, so she decided to make a herbal tea out of it all; using the tiny flowers as "tea leaves" of sorts. Having moved the corpses of the beowulves further into the back of the cave, she returned to the embers of their fire and proceeded to start one anew, using her own clothes as tinder and a spark alongside some fresh wood gathered from all the branches lying about outside. Shivering, she was now effectively naked safe for her undergarments and the cold cave floor proved to be less then accommodating towards her skin.

Cracking two stones together over her damp clothes, which were damp with the oil's taken from the previously mentioned corpses, the spark ignited the fire and soon the young girl found herself on her knees blowing small wisps of oxygen into the ember to stoke it. The fire came to life and Fei began her work .. first, the thermos .. and a strainer.

Ten minutes later ...

Whilst waiting for the tea, Fei had recalled to set up the automatic distress beacon located within each student's scroll. Having been instructed specifically to use Rachael's, she laid it open besides the unconscious faunus and started the distress sequence up. In the mean time .. she went to work undressing the faunus to clean and dress her wounds.

While Fei proceeded to clean and fix up Rachael's wounds, the distress signal quickly found it's way to Beacon, where two particular teachers had seen the signal and sent a message over the same channel saying that they would take care of it. As this happened, a certain red headed fox strolled through the hallways and passed the teachers as they began talking about the distress signal.

"Do you think they're okay? Will they last long enough for us to get there?" one of them asked, this one male. He gave a concerned look to his fellow teacher as he brought up the subject of the signal.

"Yes, I was the one who sent them out there. I thought they could handle it, but I guess the threat was bigger than we initially thought. There's no need to worry too much, they're both very capable students. They'll last until we get there. That Lorelei girl is particularly strong." the other teacher, this one female, said. The name 'Lorelei' caught the passing fox's ear, causing her to stop and turn around to face the teachers.

"Excuse me?" she would ask, getting the attention of both of the teachers. "Did you say Lorelei? That would be me, my last name is Lorelei." she said, getting a confused look from both of the teachers.

"Huh, I was referring to Rachael Lorelei. It must be a coincidence that you two have the same last name." the lady teacher said before turning back around. Before she could open her mouth again, she felt a hand on her shoulder, causing her to look back at the fox again. "Yes?" she said, looking slightly annoyed. They needed to leave. As in, right now.

"You said there was a distress signal coming from a miss Rachael Lorelei?" she asked, giving the teacher a grim look as she squeezed the hand on the teacher's shoulder. "I'll be going then. Tell me where she is."

The teacher shook her head and said. "This isn't a job for you, this is a job for the staff. I was responsible for sending them out there, but I underestimated the threat. I'll be the one going not y-" she was cut off by the fox interrupting her again.

"No. I know this girl, you will tell me where she is, and you will let me go help her." she said, not bothering to keep a respectful tone for the teachers. Her face couldn't express how serious she was, as she wasn't about to let these teachers keep her away from this girl. The lady opened her mouth to say something but was interrupted by the man.

"She'll be fine. Here, give me your scroll Blaise. I'll note where they are and you can go." he said. The fox handed him her scroll quickly, and he marked where the signal was coming from. "Head straight there, right now. I know how strong you are, you can handle it." he said as Blaise immediately took off for the exit. The lady looked like she was going to protest, but she just shut her mouth and shook her head.

"Why do I even bother... We sent two of them out there and they had to send out a distress signal, what makes you think she'll do any better?" she asked the man. He just smiled and kept quiet, making the woman sigh and shake her head even more.

In the meanwhile, the sounds of Beowolves howling could be heard by Fei, although they were very distant. They probably smelled the blood of their comrades and were coming to investigate.

Fei looked up, concerned at the sounds of the beowulves outside the cave, wriggling her nose she huddled closer to Rachael as she dressed and cleaned her wounds. She tossed away the bloodied rags from before and began dabbing away gently at the faunus's severe injuries, frowning a bit at their situation. The tea was finished and was now set aside in the thermos of boiling water, the other thermos filled with spring water was being used to wet Fei's torn and stripped clothes, so that she could wash the blood away. It was hard to bandage the faunus without waking her, so Fei propped Rachael's head on top of her lap and used the extra leverage to wrap what was left of the clean strips of bandages she found in the first-aid kit around her wounds. After that was done, she dressed the faunus back up and shivered again, the fire doing little for her now that it was dying down.

She dared not risk going out to gather more firewood, lest she leave Rachael undefended and herself vulnerable without protection. Holding the faunus in her arms, she closed her eyes and sighed; snuggling closely to her companion as she awaited rescue.

Blaise sprinted towards the direction her scroll was telling her. It was pretty far away, and it would take at least fifteen minutes from Beacon to get there at the speed she was going. With her semblance, she was capable of increasing her speed by a little over twofold. Otherwise it would have been around half an hour or more to get there. All she could do was hope they'd be okay by the time she got there.

Some time after Fei began snuggling with her, Rachael slowly opened her eyes and looked up at her lover. "Fei..." she mumbled weakly, shivering at the cold. "I'm sorry... I made you... do this..." she whimpered, referring to how the girl had cleaned her wounds. She didn't mean to switch roles like that, with Fei originally being the hurt one. She just wasn't strong enough, and it made her feel guilty. She didn't move, as her wounds prevented her from doing so. "The tea..." she muttered before her eyes immediately started drooping again. It took all of her energy just to stay awake at this point. But before Fei could even move, a growl at the opening to the cave would catch her attention. At least a dozen Beowolves were at the opening to the cave.

"Damnit..." Blaise muttered to herself as she approached the entrance to the cave. The Beowolves hadn't entered, but they were there and there were many. "I guess I'll just have to make this dramatic then." she said as she sprinted from her hiding spot just behind a tree towards the Beowolves. Her sword wasn't even drawn as she sprinted towards them, jumping over their heads and landing just at the cave opening allowing her to roll in. Her black long coat flourished in the air around her as she tugged on the bandages that wrapped around her sword. She didn't even wait for them to completely fall off before she swung it over her shoulder with a single arm despite it being almost as long as she was tall.

With a sigh and a smile, she looked over her shoulder and to the two figures that were behind her. One looked oddly familiar, the other she couldn't identify. They both were naked, but she assumed they had their reasons. She'd consult them about it later.

"'Sup?" was all she said as she looked back at the two behind her, still pointing her sword at the Beowolves who just stood there.

Fei nodded, gently stroking the girl's cheek as she watched her eyes droop, reaching over for the thermos filled with the heated herbal tea. Uncorking the lid, she forwent pouring the tea into the thermos cup and simply tilted the thermos into and against Rachael's mouth, gently tickling her neck to make her react in a way to open her mouth. Looking up at the cave entrance, Fei simply furrowed her brows as her frown grew bigger, more concerned about keeping the faunus drinking her tea then the imminent danger. Perhaps intuition or instinct told her so, but she felt help was coming and it eased her knowing that. A few moments later that heroic moment had arrived, causing the young Huntress to smile as she returned to tending to her companion.

"Drink .. help's come, Rachael."
