Relics [Closed]

Jacob lay on his back, staring up as the crimson leaves tumbled through the air before landing on the ground around him. A cool breeze whistled through the trees, shaking loose another torrent of leaves. He closed his eyes and breathed out slowly, a thin smile appearing on his face.

Hira watched Jacob from under a pile of leaves. Target in sight... aaaand jump! She leaps out from under the pile of leaves, landing sprawled over Jacobs stomach. "I got you!" She yells in victory, grinning.

Jacob yelped as Hira appeared and landed on him. He sighed, smiling
"Hey Hira" he sat up, stretching. A leaf fell onto his shoulder and he brushed it off "what kept you?"

She laughs a little and sits next to him. "I was hiding under a pile of leaves! I can't believe you didn't smell me." She says as she rummages through her ever-present backpack.

"I may have gotten a whiff" he admitted "thought it best to see how long you were willing to hide" he grinned.

Hira smirks at him before throwing a sandwich in his face. "Oh hardy har har. Have a sandwich." She says through a mouthful of her own sandwich.

Jacob picked up the food and proceeded to stuff it into his mouth, grinning as he did.
"Thanks" he swallowed and took another large bite, once finished he wiped his hands and turned to Hira "so what did you want to show me out here, when you left the note in my dorm you said you'd found something."

Hira crams the rest of the sandwich in her mouth and stands up, looking really excited. "Mmph mph mph mph!" She mumbles before swallowing. "Sorry... I found the old GCC vehicle compound!"

"A what now?" Jacob's eyes widened slightly. He climbed to his feet, he'd left his bag back at beacon so for the first time in weeks he was carrying only the cloths on his back.

Hira grabbed his hand and started to drag him through the treeline. "The old GCC vehicle compound! That gunship we used is one of the ones made by GCC!" She exclaims as she rushes through the red forest.

Jacob's grin widened as he realised why Hira was so excited about an old vehicle compound.
"I take it the compound's not empty."

Hira suddenly stops and spins around, grinning up at Jacob. "Nope! There's still plenty of vehicles in there! And no workers!" She exclaims before turning and continuing to drag Jacob through the trees. "Almost there...!"

"Hira, I like the way you think" he smirked, increasing his pace so that he remained level with her.

After a few minutes they break through the treeline, a large chainlink fence and an airfield full of Triarchs in front of them. A few other kinds of vehicles are also visible. "I didn't bring wire cutters, we'll have to climb the fence." Hira mumbles as she takes a grip on the steel caging.

Jacob took a few steps backwards before launching himself into the air and vaulting over the fence. He turned his gaze back to Hira as she started climbing the rusted metal fence, before turning his gaze to the veritable candy store before him. Despite the dilapidation of the area, the vehicles still looked as though they were in working order, the only dilema now was picking which one to hotwire.

Hira drops down on the other side of the fence, taking a moment to scan the area before heading over towards a small vehicle with two seats and no wheels. "Hey, it's a Hammerhawk! I haven't seen one of these in a while."

Jacob eyed up the ship, walking over he ran a hand along the body.
"Sturdy" he noted "second seat for the gunner?" he crouched and tried to get a better look at the engine, it looked pretty bulky, fair amount of power behind it judging by its size.

Hira vaults over the small wings on the side and sits in the frontal seat. "Yeah, for the under mounted thermal lances. They're much smaller than on the gunship we used but they work just fine. Come on, get in!" She encourages him while hitting a few ignition switches, the engine quietly humming to life.

Jacob climbed into the passenger seat and took a firm hold of the weapon controls.
"Take it easy" he grunted "I'm still getting used to this whole flying thing."

Hira snorts and gently guns the engine, the small craft floating above the ground a little. "Silly, it's a hovercraft. It doesn't fly, those are just stabilizers." She says as she carefully pushes down on the thruster pedal, the hoverbike moving at walking speed to the end of the airfield. "If I'm correct they actually made this as a training field. We could drive around for a bit before looking at the other vehicles."

"Sounds good" Jacob nodded, his grip on the controls didn't loosen however. The bike hummed beneath him, the slightly high pitched whine of the primary thrusters causing his ears to tingle somewhat, but it was bearable. His expression changed however as a thought struck him "open her up" he grinned.

Sticking her arm out to the side, Hira gives a thumbs up. "Propulsion drive is ready, Thermal lances are charging. Targeting panel is center of the console. You ready?" She asks as she puts her hand back on the control stick and squeezes, the engine flaring up the more she squeezes.

Jacob's fists clenched tighter around the controls and he shifted his body closer to the seat
"Ready" he replied.

Hira flicks a switch on the dash that initiates training mode. Cover and targets start to pop up on the open airfield, large columns of concrete also raising. Hira lurches forwards and slams the two control sticks to the front of their tracks, a large plume of blue flame roaring out of the engine before it dies down and the hoverbike kicks off, going about 40 MPH.

The wind whistled past Jacob's ears and his face practically lit up as the bike lurched forwards. He lifted his head slightly before whooping loudly and staring off ahead of the hoverbike, the wind whipping his ears back.
"THIS IS AMAZING!" he yelled over the noise of the engine and the screaming wind.
