The Artillery Range[Limited: 5] (Testing new tag)

OOC: This is a test for a new tag called Limited, which means the thread is open but only a certain number of characters can join until it is closed. The limit for this test is 5. Once five players have joined, you may consider the thread a closed thread.

The Artillery Range. A massive open area on the backside of the academy near the Arena, it is one of the more interesting places in the school, as there are all manner of disc throwers and small catapults to launch targets with. There's plenty of targets painted on the ground downrange along with some very long range targets in the distance. The other interesting aspect of this place is being able to see other student's weapons up close, but without the downside of having to dodge whatever its firing.

There are only a few students here today, and among them is Kaali Charen, a third year student.


Kaali is messing with the interior mechanics of her deployed turret, Daedalus. A few parts lay on the ground next to her as she sits there staring at the machine works, considering options. Just to the right of Daedalus is a heavy disc thrower, setup and ready to unleash its clay targets.

A hooded first year boy is at the edge of the range, setting up a bipod for his Sniper Rifle, he gazed upon the targets in the range and looked down his scope. He took a breath in and fired a single shot; the bullet whizzes downrange and hits the center of a group of targets, creating a small explosion. A smirk can be seen on the boy's lips as he saw the target go down. He fired at another target; the same result happened. One by one targets fell to Kail, and none of them were Faunus targets; each target was a human cutout. After about the thirtieth target, he stops to reload while looking around.

Darcil enters walks into the range and takes a look around. "Hmmm nice set up they got here." He thinks to himself. As he walks in he notices a hooded sniper already taking some shots at targets, and turning them into rubble. As well he notices a cat faunas working on what seems to some sort of auto cannon.

He walks over to a set of disc throwers in the room and starts to set up. Taking out White snow and making sure that his revolver is fully loaded and cocked. "Guess I'll work on my quick draw." He sets up the thrower to release 3 clay pigeons upon activation.

He puts his weapon in its holsters and places his foot on the pedal of the launcher. "3......2........1..." He steps on the pedal releasing all 3 pigeons. He quickly draws out his weapon and  
fires off 3 rounds in quick succesion turning the 3 targets into fragments.

He smiles and gives a small chuckle to himself "Ha! Still got it!" He takes a seat to reload his weapon and make sure everything is working fine.

Walking out into the open air, his blade on his back, his hands holding air, and his gun holster on his right leg still empty, Hunter is the only one without a single firearm out in the field. Approaching the girl tinkering with what seems to be an auto turret, Hunter speaks up. "Hey. Need a hand, there?"

Kail looked to a person shooting three clay pidgeons, he nods at the accuracy of the shots, and states "Nice shooting there." and he inserts a freeze crystal into Alpha, while loading a magazine.

Darcil finishes loading up Snow. He stands up returning to the machine, setting up for 4 targets this time, when he hears the hooded sniper commenting on his shooting. "Hey, thanks man! Not bad yourself with your rifle."

He sets himself up this time with his gun already in his hand. "3.....2.......1" As the 4 targets fly out of the launcher, he transforms Snow into its rifle mode. He fires off 4 of his rounds, nailing 3 of them and just clipping the last one barely. "Hmmm damn."

He sits down again and starts calibrating his sights on his rifle mode. He takes a look back over at the sniper. "Names Darcil by the way, nice to meet ya."

Kaali spins her head around to spot Hunter, startled slightly by the quite tall student having approached her unnoticed. She stares at him blankly for just a moment, before reaching for her notepad in her back pocket, only to realize its not there. She quickly searches her surroundings, and grabs it from next to the pile of small parts laying to her side, opening it and writing something in it. Standing behind her, its easy to see what she is writing as its written, but once she finishes, she stands and turns to face Hunter, showing the notepad.

Her ears wander as she stands, tuning in on their surroundings, while she maintains a mildly frustrated expression, only partially masked by a welcoming smile.

Kail smiled and nodded, adjusting the sights on Alpha "I'm Kail, good to meet you too." and he put a setting into a launcher for 3 clay pidgeons, and promptly fired at them as they were launched, each one gaining a lot of Ice and shattering upon contact with the ground.

"Hmmmm that should do the trick" He stands up again and loads 4 rounds once again. He goes up to the pedal with rifle in hand. Before this time though he loads his "Fireworks" clip set. The pigeons fly up and takes 4 shots at them. Hitting each one with a dust round, creating a small light show of lightning, fire, and ice.

He returns his gun to his pistol form and holsters it. He starts to reach for a cig thinking to himself "Hmmm, Nah ill just do it later." He sits down and records the date in his notebook of the last time he adjusted his sights (today). "So new too beacon?" Directing the question at the sniper.

Kail nods slightly "Fresh off the Airship. Noticed a few people are pretty...unstable..." he comments, remembering a couple of encounters as he switched crystals to one he hasn't used and fired, ending up silencing his shot and shattering each of the six pidgeons launched with precision.

The girl didn't respond to Hunter. Instead, she just turned to the side to look for something, probably busy with her work. "Uh... was it something I said?" Still no response, just her writing something on a notepad, which she showed him. He took a glance. "'Self-sealing stem bolt'? What's that supposed to be? And how come you're not ta-" A sudden realization hit him. "Oh, sorry, I- I didn't realize that- er..." Hunter's words faltered. "Huh. I'm sorry, I didn't realize that you couldn't talk. I'm Hunter." He offered his hand for her to shake. "Hunter the Huntsman."

Sylvian Silverhorn, who just has done with her daily training sessions, walks over Beacon's new training facility nearby.

"The Artillery Range, eh?"

She decides to enter. This seems like a self-training ground for students to improve their range-combat abilities, or whatever alike. There is a very large field with various targets, both immobiled and moving ones, with various sizes. There are plenty of disc throwers and catapults too.

Sylvian takes a long look throughout the campus. There are already 4 people here, and they must be students she guesses. She chooses the nearest available spot, opens her Scroll to call for her rocket locker, then sits down and wait for it to come.

Kail looked at the new arrival to the range with curiosity, and checked his weapon to distract himself from her; he was going to wait for her to speak until he makes is judgement of her. He looked over his scroll once and put it away, before separating Alpha into his pistols and checking those.

The hooded man standing at the spot next to Sylvian just showed a brief glance of curiousity, which irritated her a little. Not like she'd care anyway.

A short while after, Sylvian's rocket locker shows up from above and then lands in front of her. It catches the eyes of everyone within the campus. Sylvian throws them a cold glance, then calmly takes out her shields, while leaving her armor inside before sending it back with her locker.

"You expecting something?" Sylvian answers their questioning look with another question. "I believe this isn't the first time you've seen combat shields, is it?"

Kail sighed, and put a Burn Crystal in one pistol, and a freeze Crystal in the other, and proceeded to tear up the range, each shot finding a target's head, some grimm, some human criminal cut-outs, he left the white fang cut-outs for someone else.

"Not quite bad. But leaving the White Fang... Is he a Faunus...?"

Sylvian wonders after seeing the hooded man's marksmanship. Her thirst for victory rises then, as she engages her Impala Gracia into boomerang form. A new wave of targets with the same level shows up. Sylvian lowers her stance and aims for the right angle, then give it a throws.

The giant boomerang then gracefully draws a circular arc in the air, takes down the targets along the way, and comes back to her hand. All of the other targets are destroyed, but the White Fangs are still intact.

Sylvian then gives him a challenging glance to provoke him into her play.

Kail looked to Sylvia, musing "Making a little contest out of this, are we?" and he chuckled, smiling as he hesitantly fired at the White Fang targets.

"Looks like he accepted the challenge... Let's see if he can catch up with this!"

Sylvian activates the nearest discs thrower and aims into the air. A dozen of discs are shot out randomly. She calmly analyzes their paths, then throws her boomerang again. Moving targets are not as easy as immobiled ones, in addition, her boomerang has a fixed trajectory once thrown. It missed 2 discs out of the dozen, which doesn't satisfy her as much as she was expecting. No perfect score, means the opponent still has chance to overcome. But who knows, the outcome might be in her favor.

Kail chuckled while shooting the two disks out of the air when Sylvia's boomerang missed, and sent up twenty discs, alternating his fire from one pistol to the other and smashing each and every one to pieces, not allowing to be beaten. He then reloaded, stating plainly "Beat that."

As Hunter begins making inquiries of his own, Kaali immediately starts writing her reply into her notepad, stopping for a second when it dawns on Hunter that she cannot speak. She shakes her head once, trying to say that 'it's fine', as she flips her notepad around after changing it to an early page containing somewhat worn writing, revealing that this page was pre-written as a generic greeting. Kaali extends her free hand to complete her introduction.

A brief moment passes, and she lowers her hand but keeps the notepad up just for a moment longer, before turning it to face her as she finishes writing whatever she was writing before.

Holding the notepad still as she shows it to the newcomer, she kneels down and grabs a small part, which is cracked along its side, showing it off. This must be the part she is referring to.

After shaking her hand, Hunter studies the orange trapezoid prism-shaped part carefully. "Huh. So that's what one of those look like." He looks back at the auto turret Kaali is working on. "You know, I think you'd be better off in the workshop than out here for that thing, Kaali. You know, sinc-" The artillery range suddenly interrupted him with large gunfire and explosions, along with some ice from the others out there. "-Since things can get hectic out here."

Quickly scribing her answer on her notepad, she shows it to Hunter with one hand as she turns to face the cannon, snapping shut the panel that's on it.

After giving him a few moments to read it, she lowers the notepad into her back pocket, using her free hand to signal Hunter to back up a step as she walks over to the skeet thrower and sets it up with a single one, ready to fire at a very high angle. Stepping back once its ready, she stands with her right foot on the ground trigger, unstrapping her spear, and pointing it to the sky. She glances around the field as she stands, looking at Hunter and the various others in the area. This'll totally work this time. Please?

After a quick glance at the page, Hunter notices Kaali closing a panel on the turret. Wait, didn't she just write that it wasn't working right? He takes a few steps back as well, unsure of what's going to happen.

"Kaali, on a scale of 1 to 10, how bad is the targeting on that turret of yours right now?"

One to ten? That's easy. Kaali holds her spear with only her right hand, holding up five fingers with her left, then quickly closes it and opens it again with only three fingers up. Her thumb shifts slightly on the spear handle, pressing a tiny button, and the turret comes to life, making a light humming sound as the tiny interior dust reactor begins powering up. A small light turns on next to the panel that was open a moment ago, and begins filling up like a meter. Probably some kind of charge meter.

"Eight, huh?" Hunter eyes the now-operative turret. "I see it's got two barrels on it. One looks like a standard chain gun, but what's the other?" He faces Kaali again. "Care for a demo?"
